* Reported on local and regional news, community events, interest groups, crime, special features and local politics for three Boston, MA neighborhood weekly newspapers. Wrote a weekly general-interest column. Performed layout, design, copy-editing and paste-up functions.

* Edited "into-English" materials (legal, financial, medical, scientific, software documentation, etc.) for a Boston-area natural-language translation firm. Managed numerous projects from initial translation-assignment through delivery-to-client.

* Served as de facto Editor (writing, editing, type/printer liaison, photo-editing, layout, etc.) for a biweekly special-interest tabloid, with a circulation of over 6,000. * Wrote user manuals for a software-product family. (One year later, revised the entire set to fit a completely new user interface.)

* Co-designed and -conceptualized company-wide Marketing collateral materials. Coordinated layout and production. Scripted and/or collaborated on numerous marketing and training presentations.

* Coordinated menuing/maintenance/testing for a multi-function office automation package. Created filing, inventory and time-tracking systems. Developed menu structure for customizing LAN applications-access.

* Created Simplified User Guides and Cribsheets for use as supplemental training aids. Wrote mini-manuals geared to management-level personnel for simplified system access.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY:

* Managed a $150,000, 7-language translation project, converting from and to a mainframe-based database. Supervised translators, editors and production staff. Coordinated schedules and deadlines. Brought project in under budget and on time, despite continual client-specification changes.

* Managed all statewide aspects of a national third-party Presidential campaign from ballot-status through Election Day, including press releases and conferences, media-liaison, candidate visits, publicity, volunteer coordination and logistics.

* Supervised a four-member volunteer team in weekly processing of receipts for an educational seminars organization, including workflow coordination, assignment of duties, project management and final responsibility for balancing accounts and computer database management.

USER SUPPORT:

* Provided elementary training for 100 users in WordPerfect and WP Office functions. Initiated user survey for training needs assessment.

* Served as in-house troubleshooter for a 10-person multimedia startup.

* Advised in-house users, freelancers and clients on software and Bulletin Board operation.

* Supervised user training in multiple PC-based software applications.

COMPUTER NETWORK MANAGEMENT:

* Maintained a 30-node Novell Local Area Network, including PC and Mac terminals, modems, Bulletin Board, tape-drive backup system, and MAIL in a multiple-router configuration.

* Managed a 50-node LAN, including system upgrades and troubleshooting. Coordinated hardware/software LAN connection to Vanderbilt Medical Center WAN backbone.

* Assisted Director of Information Services in LAN management, system troubleshooting and user support, including hardware/software configuration and set-up of multiple workstations, PC and Mac, for a clinical research firm serving the pharmaceuticals-testing industry.

* Recommended/supervised a system-wide network upgrade to Novell Netware 3.11. Installed software packages in DOS, Windows and Mac environments.

* Oversaw Hardware/Software set-up and tear-down. Created installation routines; Maintained software library; Performed Q/A testing and programmer-liaison.
